Hair Guide

Treat it like
your own.

FFRENCHIIE is 100% raw human hair. Wash it, condition it, style it with heat, twist it out and even colour it. Care for it the way you care for your own hair and it will keep its shine and movement for a long time.

Treat it like your own.

Raw hair has never been chemically processed, so it behaves like healthy natural hair. The routines you already use on your own hair work on ours.

The golden rule: be as gentle with your install as you are with your own hair. Moisture in, heat protection on, and no rough brushing.

Three things to know about your install

01

It can’t feed itself

Your own hair gets natural oils from your scalp every day. Extensions don’t. That moisture has to come from you, through conditioner, leave-in and the right oils. Skip it and hair gets dry, tangles and sheds sooner.

02

Every texture has its own routine

A sleek Wave, a defined Curl and a full Kink don’t want the same products or the same handling. Care for the texture you bought, not a one-size-fits-all routine.

03

Lasting takes two

Great hair is half of it. The other half is great care. Raw hair plus a steady routine is what gets you months of wear and installs you can reuse.

Your hair can be more than one type, and that's normal. Match the texture of the hair you'll leave out, usually around your hairline and crown.

Curl and Kink look fuller than Wave at the same length, so you may need one bundle less. For extra volume, add one more.

Washing

  1. Wash every 7 to 10 days, or sooner if you work out or use a lot of product.
  2. Detangle gently before you get it wet.
  3. Use lukewarm water and a sulfate-free shampoo. Work it in from the top down. Don't rub, twist or pile the hair on your head.
  4. Follow with a moisturizing conditioner and leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes. Deep condition every second wash.
  5. Rinse with cool water to close the cuticle and add shine.
  6. Squeeze out water with a microfibre towel or t-shirt, then air dry or diffuse on low.

Leave-in conditioner and moisture

Hair on an install doesn't get the natural oils from your scalp, so you need to put that moisture back in.

  • Use a leave-in conditioner after every wash, and refresh with a light mist between washes.
  • Seal with a light oil or serum on the mid-lengths and ends. Keep heavy oils away from the wefts and lace.
  • Curl and Kink love moisture. Refresh with water and leave-in, then add a curl cream or custard to define.
  • Avoid products with high alcohol content. They dry the hair out.

Twist outs, braid outs and wash and go

Style it the way you style your own hair.

  • Twist out or braid out: on damp hair with leave-in and a styling cream, twist or braid in sections, let it dry fully, then unravel and fluff at the roots.
  • Wash and go: apply leave-in and gel to soaking wet Curl or Kink, rake through, and let it air dry without touching it.
  • Bantu knots, flexi rods and roller sets all work on raw hair.
  • Every texture will return to its natural pattern once you wash it.

Heat styling

Yes, you can use heat. Flat irons, curling wands, blow dryers and silk presses all work on raw hair.

  • Always use a heat protectant first.
  • Keep tools at 350°F (180°C) or lower, and go over each section once rather than several times.
  • Curl and Kink will go back to their pattern after a wash. Too much heat can loosen the pattern over time, so give your hair heat-free days.

Colour and dye

Yes, you can dye it. Raw hair hasn't been processed, so it takes colour like your own natural hair would.

  • Going darker or adding a rich tone is easy and gentle on the hair.
  • Going lighter, like honey blonde, is also possible. Lift slowly with a low-volume developer and a bond builder, and deep condition afterwards.
  • For big changes, we recommend a professional colourist. Do a strand test on a small hidden section first.
  • Colour the hair before it's installed whenever you can, so the lace and your scalp stay protected.

Coloured and bleached hair needs extra moisture, so add a weekly deep conditioning treatment.

Night routine

  • Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase, or wear a satin bonnet or scarf.
  • Wave: wrap it or tie it in a loose low braid. Curl and Kink: pineapple it on top of your head to keep the definition.
  • Never sleep on wet hair. It tangles and can mat.

Detangling

  • Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers, starting at the ends and working up to the weft.
  • Detangle Curl and Kink only when damp, with conditioner or leave-in. Don't brush them dry.
  • Hold the hair above the weft while you comb, so you don't pull on the wefts.

Storing and reusing

With good care, raw hair can be worn, taken down and reinstalled again and again, often for a year or more.

  • Wash and condition it before you store it, and let it dry completely.
  • Store it in a satin bag or the FFRENCHIIE box, away from heat and sunlight.
  • Gently brush or finger-detangle it before your next install.
